07.05.10 @charbautista @nurseshark @missBUAN : baptish!

this is the yummy starter to the dinner joy made for dennis and i. we drank some of pete's homemade vino tinto (san giovese) and had ghiradelli's brownies for dessert! we even ichatted char! so much fun should be illegal. dennis didn't stop speaking french, of the level "haut de gamme" or even better, the "échelon élevé". we made a few new words up: "marronies" = brownies; "un chiot dans le capot" = literally: a puppy in the trunk, figuratively: junk in the trunk.

it was just as hiLArious as you could imagine.

i miss us all!

01.05.10 spaghetti cake!

my sis and my best had the great idea to make this cake (thanks to thisiswhyyourefat.com). lil sis helped too. i just bought the "garlic bread" (sponge toffee).

it's actually a white cake, piped icing for "noodles", strawberry coulis for "tomato sauce", and ferrero rocher "meatballs"! nuts, huh?!

it was so good but so sweet! i suggest making something this ridiculous at least once in your life. it really makes you feel alive... before the sugar puts you into shock.

we encountered a buffalo. a stuffed one with a canada flag on its back that was leashed to a bench with a blue rope at the truck crossing duty free. and the sign said not to feed it? i think that was the least of its worries.

04.04.10 happy easter, gangsta!

while searching for the lost lindt chocolate bunny last week, i encountered a lindt bunny gangster hiding among the civilian lindt bunnies. good thing the chocolate stool pigeons were sitting on a different shelf.

in march, a coworker and i went to a workshop to learn how to make ukrainian eggs in hopes that we would teach the kids. so far, we've taught the 7th grade, my little sister and her family. it's fun once you get the hang of it!

ugh.

so it's 9am on saturday morning and i'm trying in vain to get rid of this cold.  it's always during a vacation or a four day weekend that i get the most sick.  i gotta stop being good at things.  if the boss wants a job to be done right, he turns to a few key people on the staff... me included.  and most of the time, the job is something particularly meticulous and it just can't be done half-ass.  i guess i made my own bed, i should sleep in it.  i just wish i could do a phenomenal job and NOT get sick in the process.  that's it, time for another resolution: from now on, i will only do mediocre work.

haha yeah right ;p

happy saturday, folks.  and happy easter!  hope you spend this weekend with family and good friends.  and i'd like to give a shout out to jesus: thanks.

28.02.10 sochi balloon (it wasn't televised!)

about 175 of us were selected to carry these huge balloons in the sochi portion of the closing ceremony. when that supermodel waved her magic wand during the end of that orchestra bit, we were instructed to pop them by activating the detonator (that cylinder thing i'm holding). yes, they were full of confetti. and more importantly, i got to keep the track suit! go sochi 2014!

28.02.10 watching the game at "the compound"

26.02.10 at the USA house

i quite enjoyed partying at the USA house (thanks yuen!). i got to meet most of the male athletes from the speedskating team and they are really nice! the other perks were the buffet (scallops, lamb chops, ravioli, cocktail shrimp, dessert... mmmm), open bar with generous pours, the mc café, and pringle chips in every flavour!
and there was a huge flatscreen.
wish i could have stayed longer but the sandman beckoned. plus i took heavy advantage of the open bar ;)

21.02.10 olympic fun PRICELESS

these are just highlights of what i saw as i walked around downtown last night, after giving up on lining up at republic for too long (and not being anywhere near getting in). note: there are way more hiLArious things vancouver... they just were not appropriate to post ie. my friend posing at a sign with an arrow that said "eat here".

18.02.10 sochi house reprise

ah! it must have been because the restaurant was "not working"! ;)
i thought that sign was pretty funny. actually, there was quite a commotion because mr. colbert was there doing a segment for his show. that guy is so funny. can't wait to watch what he airs next week.

18.02.10 sochi house

science world, as we locals know it, has been transformed into russia's sochi house. the line moved quickly but the inside was packed! maybe it was because of the russia hockey hall of fame tours, maybe it was because of the free russian movies they were playing on the imax, maybe because of that elusive cherub... sk... ummm yeah i can't spell that mascot's name. well it has big ears. anyway, it was pretty neat in there.

02.02.10 more richmond whimsy

this picture was taken outside the izakaya restaurant called koto. for all us old school richmond-goers, this place used to be called kamikaze... i think. it's been so long! well the prices are still cheap and i will definitely add to this post if the food is just as good :)

oh yes... i am not a fan of cali rolls but i'm pretty satisfied that they are also open for dinner. haha awesome sign!

02.02.10 is the answer SISQO?

the java hut in the neighbourhood always puts up a trivia question. i think it's for a free coffee but i wouldn't know cuz i never get the answer right. it's fun for the brain as you wait for your food though.
today, i was SO SURE that the answer was the thong song by sisqo. turns out the answer is bach. so close and yet so far!

26.01.10 the torch!

this torch and outfit belongs to the ng family. the kids go to the school i teach at, and their dad was the proud torch bearer for a leg of the journey (tofino, i think). the kids at the school look at it and are in absolute awe. they can't believe that an ordinary person can have anything to do with something so monumental.
i know of the troubles that the olympics are causing us grown ups, but don't get all grumpy about it around kids.
it's stuff like this that inspire them to go after their dreams.

20.01.10 annie's ball

my twin is in town so we decided to eat at one of her favourite restaurants (guu for good looking people. for real, that's what it means!). first off, we ate like kings. as i type, we are waiting on their delicious earl grey crème brûlée... mmmmm. but yes, we gorged on the deep fried brie. and if you like spinach, try their popeye salad. it's garnished with yummy crispy bacon (veggie friends, you're missing out). and they have fancy cocktails are rated on sweetness... this place is awesome.

anyway, the ramune we had required the marble popper. and the japanese yam fries were so fancily served with a piece of origami paper. by request of my twin, i folded a paper ball and we displayed it on the marble popper.

now to remind us all, i have a 3g. that's a measley 2 megapixel camera on this puppy. i took a pic and then my friend took one with her storm (v.1)... hers is 3.2 and it shoots with flash. it looks awesome.

i can't wait for the 4g!

just a show of hands...

who still checks out my blog?

i rarely update from blogger anymore, but i still manage the layout and stuff from here.  i got into posting with posterous last year because in july '08, my iphone 3g became my newly acquired gadget.  i just HAD to find cool ways to use it.  the thought of this phone's potential blew my mind.  so if you were to ever pick up my phone, you'd be able to tell from my apps that i like the ones that take advantage of the phone's accelerometer, gps, wifi, bluetooth... and even the camera.  there's ps mobile which is really useful in quickly touching up a photo taken with your phone's camera.  this has been particularly handy, in conjunction to my clarifi case (with a lens that lets you take macro shots clearly from as close as 4 inches!), and the picposterous app for my photoblogging.  it's so easy it's nuts.

currently, my game of choice (or obsession) is words with friends, a scrabble-like game, but my first ever game of interest was aurora feint.  this was just a type of block dropping game which would let you tilt the phone to the sides if you needed to shift a set of blocks over.  at the time, that game was so cool it was neat-o.
other games i thoroughly enjoyed, which used the accelerometer in game play: cowabunga, scoops, rolando, labyrinth, scramble and wild west pin ball.  nice escapes for when you're waiting in line at the post office, waiting for your date to get ready, or waiting for the lunch bell.

i could go on, but... ok i will.  i haven't written in forever, i might as well bore you to tears if you aren't as into this geeky iphone stuff as me.  don't worry, it'll be short.
my most frequently used apps would be: dropbox, evernote, whatsapp, echofon, google, showtimes, scoremobile, weathereye and urbanspoon.  i'm in the middle of trying out dragon dictation and so far it's pretty cool.  i wonder if it will take dictation from my jawbone earpiece...

oh and best of all, i have NOT paid for an app yet!  if it contributes to my satisfaction with the app, then so be it.  i'm happy with my little iphone 3g... can't wait for the 4g to come out!

ugh.  i hear birds... time for bed.

13.01.10 james collin?..

i just went to the collin james concert tonight at the orpheum. suzie macneil opened and she sounded pretty good! and mr. james rocked the house only as he could. or like the guy behind me liked to yell "woooo! collin! ROCK AND ROLL!". i wish i had a flash cuz he was sporting a trucker hat and a burt reynolds 'stache! the crowd surprised me and barely got up to groove... i think i was the ONLY filipina there so i of COURSE wanted to dance. but i just stayed in my seat.
but mr. james ABSOLUTELY brought me back to highscool... good times :)

11.01.10 ramen shop whimsy

this itty bitty figurine was photographed at G-men in richmond. i've eaten there more than once and only noticed the little people there yesterday! they're really little.
my fave ramen there is the tonkatsu ae soba. dry ramen with super yum paste (i think it's miso, but i'm not sure) and the best soft boiled egg i've had the pleasure of eating in all the ramen shops! you MUST try it if you're ever in the hood (by "hood" i mean "continental plaza"). and if you need ramen eating company, holler at me!
